Katarina Wit started skating when she was age five. Her talent soon began to emerge and she was accepted to Karl-Marx-Stadt's special school. There she saw their teacher Jutta M ller. Witt made her breakthrough year in 1982 after she placed second at the World Championships held in Copenhagen. Her graceful style and elegance of Witt captured the eyes of everyone and she has dominating her sport since then. Olympic victory At Sarajevo, in the Sarajevo Winter Games of 1984, Katarina Witz won the women's gold medal for figure skating in an intense contest. She won a much closer contest four years later. She didn't win the free-skating contest, however, she was awarded gold for her results during the compulsory figure and short program. Witt was the first female to win in both male and female figure skating in the past since Sonja Hiene. Hall of Fame Witt competed in the Lillehammer Winter Games in 1994 after a successful career acting. While she did not get a single medal she enchanted fans despite finishing seventh. The year 1995 was the year that Witt got inducted into World Figure Skating Hall of Fame.
